Only a short drive away from the capital of Anjou, the hilly vineyards of Savennières was shaped by the Romans crossing the Loire Valley. In the 12th century, the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas, in Angers, took care of expanding this vineyard. As the Loire river and its affluents offered a great access and way of transportation for the wine commerce, the monks decided to arrange the rocks and grow vines of these plots of land.

Known as a wine-growing estate for over 400 years, the “Château de Chamboureau” is located on the slope of a small village named Epiré, overlooking the Loire river. On the highest point of the Savennières vineyards, the Château towers above the famous Coulée de Serrant, its South bank laying under the sun.

The “Château de Chamboureau”, a beautiful 15th-century manor house with an octagonal stair tower, is surrounded by two 18th-century lodges.

The “Château de Chamboureau” has a 4-hectare vineyard on the area covered by the Roche-aux-Moines AOC, one of the two exceptional vintages of Savennières. Only two other wine growers currently own vineyards on this beautiful territory with a South/Southwest sun exposure. The Château also has 12 hectares of Savennières and 2 of red Anjou, reaching a total surface of 18 hectares. The vineyard’s vines are 100% Chenin for the white wines and 50% Cabernet franc plus 50% Cabernet sauvignon for the red wines.

After four years of reasoned viticulture (controlled by the APIVAS, Association of integrated production of Anjou and Saumur), the “Château de Chamboureau started practising organic viticulture since September 2006, for a full and unique expression of the terroir in the wines produced. The construction of a new storehouse is currently ongoing so that the “Château de Chamboureau” has all the essential assets to become a world key reference.

End of 2006, Philip Fournier becomes the new owner of the Château de Chamboureau. As an evidence, the Chateau de Chamboureau and Domaine Jo Pithon draw closer in order to put in common the equipment and know-how and therefore start a collaboration that will end up in a complete integration.

Last revolution, the arrival for the vintage 2007, of the consultant winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt. On one hand vintner at Domaine de l’A (Cotes de Castillon), he is on the other hand the most wanted winemaker. His know how and his international renown will lead to fulfill Philip Fournier’s goals : produce wines of excellence on the most beautiful terroirs of the Loire Valley.
